Has anyone ever swapped the older '80 and earlier style transfer case shifters out or the later ('81 and later) version? If so, did you have to do any mods to the floor or linkage?
I'm doing an LQ4/4L80E/NP241C swap in my 1980 GMC and grabbed the t-case shifter from the transfer case donor in the junkyard. My old shifter setup is long gone after disassembly (pretty sure I tossed it or sold it with the old transfer case) so I figured I'd swap over to the newer style. I've clearanced the opening in the transmission tunnel so that the shifter base fits and was getting ready to re-drill new mounting holes in the floor to attach it. Planning on install threaded inserts in the floor so I don't have to deal with nuts and lock washers on the underside. I'm just curious to hear if anyone else has similar experience that they could share.
Any help or insight would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
