I have a NP 208 transfer case. I was wondering 1) is this a decent transfer case 2) is it a gear driven or chain driven and 3) can anybody suggest a decent site to get a rebuild kit(bearings, seals and gaskets)

1. Yes, just make sure you armor it from any smacks from the rocks.

2. Chain

3. I have not used them, but I had this link in my favorites.

T-Case Parts

I think North West Fab also sells rebuild kits. They are a vendor here at Ck5.

Also, a search would have answered these questions very quickly for you.

Do a search for NP208. One word, no spaces. To narrow the search include words like tough, break, etc. I've researched the same thing here and there's plenty on opinions listed. If I had more experience I'd give you mine. Some people like to replace the NP208 with the NP241 from an '89 (only year with mechanical speedo) so that you can use a reputable slip yole eliminator like the one offered by HAD.
