I recently bought a 88 Jimmy. When I first got it, it was hard to shift into 4WD. (Had to be stopped and put in neutral to get it to shift smoothly). The rear seal was leaking and the transfer case was low on fluid. Since I have fixed both issues, it is now very easy to shift into 4WD. However, if I hit a large bump it will pop out of 4H or 4L. It has a 3" block in the rear leaves and it looks like an extra spring and shim in the front.

What's the fix? Rebuild transfer case?

Any body lift? I had a similar problem with the linkage not being adjusted to compensate, only difference is when I stopped fast, the t-case would pop outta gear. wasnt fully engaged.

Oh yeah, welcome to CK5
