Transfer case

Looks like a homebrew setup using an assortment of gm parts and metal modded to only go forward and back...what transfer case is under there? Have any pics from underneath?

They all go front to back, the later models had a Z pattern in the gate for the aluminum cases. What year is your truck?

Looks cut, and like it was converted from a z pattern to straight for some reason

That looks like a NP208 shifter, same as a NP241 shifter.
Since you have a premium membership, post up a picture of the transfer case from underneath and looking at the back of the case.

I see that there is a z gate in your shifter, however it looks like someone blocked it from going to the one side, so it's just forward and backwards.

Keep in mind that you will need to have the transmission in neutral, not park, while holding the brakes.

That shifter looks like one for an np208 tcase which would be from an '81+ truck. The shifter stick has definitely been cut/cobbled/modified.

Thank you!
I was just thinking it might be from a newer truck. Just looked up ACDelco transfer case shifter lever
and it's the same W/O the bad weld job.

Definitely need pics of the t-case under the truck. That way you know what correct shifter assembly you need.

Looks to me like they took the top part of a 203 shift lever, cut it off and welded it sideways to a 208 shifter….wow

I'm guessing that the 71 dash might be lower or further into the cab than the 80's necessitating that awkward cut.

There is a thread on here that discusses flipping a np208 shifter backwards. The consensus is it works.

That would be awesome to reverse it. Then we could use the right length shifter arm.
I prefer the period correct, but maybe a newer iteration is better.

Also, does anyone know if there's an aftermarket vendor for the interior bezel for the transfer case? Only thing I can find is used ones on Ebay.

Since a 208 was never meant to be in a 70 I’d say that was the issue, a 203 shifter was about straight up.
