You said when you unlock the hubs and put it in 4 lo the front drive shaft spins but doesnt move the truck....is this lo loc or just lo?
If I put it in park and then neutral. Shift the t case to h. It will drive but it is in 2 wheel drive only rear driveshaft spins. If you unlock the hubs and the truck doesn't move in hi or lo then your transfer case hasn't been converted. If you unlock the hubs and the truck moves in hi loc or lo loc then that is normal operation.
From the looks of that video the front end is operating normally.
Oh. Wow. Ok what happens if you put the truck in park. Put the tcase in 2 hi. Lock BOTH hubs, and then start the truck, and put in to
Agreed !I agree. I think the front end is working correctly. I think the Tcase is NOT a part time tcase. I think the grinding, is from the wrong sequence of events.

I know you are not supposed to engage the hubs like that. Just did that so y’all could hear the noise. When I engage the hubs before hand the transfer case grinds. When I engage the transfer case first and then put it in the neutral and lock the hubs. Then put it to drive the hubs will grind.Agreed !
He might still have some 203 shifter adjustment issues to deal with though.
The transmission should be in park when engaging the front hubs - this is what 500$K5 meant by wrong sequence of events.I know you are not supposed to engage the hubs like that. This is what I did in the first video. When I do it that way the transfer case makes noise. Should the looking hubs make a noise while driving 2 wheel drive if they are locked. When I do that there is a horrible noise of clunking and the vehicle acts like it is skipping over something. It does ok when driving forward and straight, but not backwards or during turns that’s when it clunks. With an automatic trans I like to shift the t case in an out with the trans in park. If the engine is running and the trans is in neutral the trans output will spin. Shifting the t case will force the spinning shaft to slow and jam into messing gears. This always causes wear and has a chance to damage something.
If both the trans and t case are in neutral and you go to select park on the trans, you will hear the parking pall skipping across the teeth of the lock ring, very strong possibility of breaking the parking pall.
always engage the hub locks, while parked, parking brake engaged, then select the t case position you desire and have at it.

Hopefully the hubs aren’t jack’d up and causing engagement issues but by your description it sounds like your 203 is allowing the chain to slip on the cogs/sprockets when they get resistance such as in a turn and that would be an indicator that the case does not have a part-time kit installed in it and is very much so worn out.Whenever the hubs are not locked the transfer case shifts smoothly, but the hubs grind.
Whenever I lock the hubs first then the transfer case grinds.
it is very common for hubs to not fully engage, dirty, hard old grease will cause the sliding puck to get hung up and not fully engage splines. This is what I did in the first video. Ok, mine does not turn in high. there may be something wrong with my hubs. They leaked grease when they were getting hot. I took them apart and re greased them a while ago. Maybe I did that wrong?it is very common for hubs to not fully engage, dirty, hard old grease will cause the sliding puck to get hung up and not fully engage splines.
yes if your t case was not converted your front drive should turn in any position except neutral.
