I was approached by a family member about wanting to buy my t400 transmission that is still on my donor 454. I was wanting to keep the 400 with the 454 but it is a 2wd 400.

My question is should I go ahead and sell him the 400 for $150 now and either beef up my t350 that I have right now or find another t400 from a 4wd and beef it up.

-or-

Keep the 400 I got and convert it to work with my 4wd.

Not sure what the best would be as far as price goes and I am not transmission savy. I will be having whatever trans I get rebuilt with a heavy duty sprag and shift kit. Any suggestions?

I was also approached about selling the c30 frame with bed and rear axle for $100. The guy has a nice 3x3 cab but no frame to match. Should I say $150 and be done with it. That would get back $300 of the $500 I paid for the whole thing and will still have the 454.

:dunno:

Sell them all. You still have the 454, which now you only paid 200$. Transmissions are chep these days, especially those Turbo 350 and 400. If someone wants your stuff, take advantage and get rid of, you will find better stuff.

i'd keep the 400 also, espeically if it a shorttailshaft....ie from end of shaft to where the tailhousing bolts is 41/2''....to swap to 4x use, all it needs is pull that housing part off.

I'll check tonight. If it is that simple to swap over, I want to keep it no questions. I just don't want to get into something where I have to completely change it up to convert for a 4wd. Again, I am not transmission savvy.

A 400 is what you want. Dont sell spare parts just to sell them. If you REALLY need money, then sell them. Your tranny could go out tomorrow, you never know. If it aint broke, dont fix it.

I love my 400...it's strong but no OD. :(

Keep the 400 and sell whatever else he wants, a th350 isn't really suited for a 454 in my book...

I am simple minded so let me try to get this straight. I looked at it last night and the transmission body narrowed down and then bolted to I guess the tailhousing. Are you saying the tailhousing needs to be 4 1/2 or from the end of the shaft where the u joint is to where the tailhousing bolts to the tranny.

I did not have a measuring tape last night but the tailhousing itself is about 4 1/2. This is not including any type of shaft.

What do you think?
