could someone possibly get me the measurement on the length of a dipstick for a 700 r4 tranny? and the distance from the end of the stick to the add mark and also to the full mark..............i think the dipstick in my 83 k5 is too long and i dont want to burn my tranny up.........thanks

cmon guys any help woul be appreciated.................i dont have the original dipstick and if i can cut/trim the one i have to read the fluid level correctly it will help me save my transmission , thanks guys

just called the dealer and they told me that the dipstick was discontinued........so i guess if anyone could get me some measurements i could modify mine ...or if anyone has a gm part # i could try gm parts direct

I wouldn't be surprised if the part has been superceeded. Last one I saw purchased had the later locking dipstick.

Sorry I can't help further, just know that is what I saw my friend install after he got it from the dealer.

isn't the 700r4 a th350 with an overdrive? if the dipsticks are the same i can measure the one in my th350, but i don't have a 700r4 anywhere...just a thought

stevo..............would you mind measuring yours for me???? the total lenth from thee rubber seal to the end and also the measurements from the end of the stick to the low mark and also to the full mark, thanks ,
john

i have heard and read that 350 and 700 use same length .

and perfect way to junk yard swap a 350 to a locking 700 style.

Bottom of rib on dipstick tube to bottom of dipstick: 3 1/4"
Bottom of dipstick to low mark: 1 1/8"
Bottom of dipstick to full mark: 1 3/4"

Hope this helps!

Not off the top of my head, I'd have to run back out to the barn, it's on the shelf there.

Can you wait till tomorrow? If it's an emergency, I can go out now, but I'm kinda getting ready for bed. I'm getting old, it's still kinda light out and I'm ready for bed, WTF?

sure i can wait till tommorrow ....no problem .i just want to make sure i have the right dipstick so i dont over/underfill my tranny and burn it up..............thanks again man

Length above the rib in the tube shouldn't matter, as long as the length below it is good.

I will take a pic tomorrow with a tape measure along side it so you can see where the bends are and the bracket for the bell housing bolt is.

ok , if you dont mind take a pic of the dipstick itself .........i have the dipstick tube , but i am not sure i have the correct dipstick..........i dont think the dipstick itself is the correct length......mine is 35 1/4 inches long from the very top of the loop that you stick your finger in to pull it out of the tube to the very end of the stick itself..........add 1 pint mark is 1 1/8 from the end of the stick and the full when hot mark is 1 3/4 from the end of the stick the marks at the bottom of the stick are probably irrelavent if the stick itself is the wrong length.........which would give me a false reading...........so i guess i need the overall lenghth more than anything else

Another idea is to call the dealer back, and get the part number, and use that at gmpd. If nothing, email them and ask what the current PN is. I can't believe they are discontinued. But then again, this IS GM.
