Bought a transmission from a junkyard for my dads 2001 Dodge Ram 2500 all goes well with the install till we drop the pan to change filter and fluid.

This is what we found, does anyone have a clue what it is? I don't work on tranny's/rebuild them at work so I am not sure what it is.

Any help appreciated

Thanks,
Shawn

that piece goes on the end of the front band adjustment "screw". If you loosen the nut on the outside of the case and loosen the screw outward, install the "strut"(piece you found), then tighten the screw until there is about 1/4 in of clearance between the servo and the arm. Then tighten the nut

I would add that you will have to remove the valve body to facilitate this repair as the strut on the servo side will be dislodged as well and probably laying on top of the valve body. The little notches you see on the end of the struts engage the band ends,

cool thanks, don't know if i want to fix it or take it back now. has a 90 day warranty.

This is why I always buy from LKQ not some random junkyard. They actually drop the pan and check it out a little bit.

I would take it back and ask for another. Losing the strut means the Intermediate band was probably pretty worn out or possibly the other strut or band itself is broken.

Do yourself a favor and pull the pan on the replacements replacement and adjust those bands before you put it in. The cooler lines make it kind of a bitch to adjust , once it is in the car, definetly do-able. But easier when the trans is layin on the floor of your garage as well as if there isnt any adjustment left in it, you wont have to remove it from the vehicle
