Running a 700r4 in my mud truck love the extra low that I get in first gear. But the shift to second is so far I lose alot of momentum. My question is there a way to change the second gear ratio in these transmissions something that isn't such a huge jump? Truck is 89 k5 383 stroker solid 400 hp 700r4 241 tcase run in low 5.38 gears and 40 inch boggers on 14 wide wheels just installed a 4000 stall torque converter but havnt put in in a mud pit to see what difference it has made.

I don't recall ever seeing aftermarket gear sets for 700/4l60 trannys . but th350/th400/4l80-e yes .

might look in to th350 with aftermarket gear pack got you closer to the 700 first but not drop as much as the 700 is stock .

700 stock is 1.43 ratio drop first to second.

th350 stock is 1.0 ratio drop first to second.

th350 low set is 1.23 ratio drop firsts 2.75 ( 2.52 stock ) to second stock 1.52

There is a different geat set for the 700R4/4L60E that will give a 2.84:1 1st gear and 1.56:1 2nd gear. I heard about these some time back and was just looking at it here about halfway down the page. http://www.transmissioncenter.net/highperf700r4.htm
