Well Either the transmission or the Transfercase is Messed up. Its a TH350 that was rebuilt before i bought the truck with a shift kit. And a 203 case that has the part time kit instaledd. Well Just tonight I go and start the truck up let her warm up. I go and put it in nutral and put it in 4 wheel drive. Well then i go back to park cause I had to grab my little bros car seat from the other car. Well go in reverse it makes a indescrible sound, so i put it and park and crawl undernieth it. Get back in the truck go into reverse, makes the same sound and wont move in any gear. Well then i though maybey the tcase was in nutral, well it would only shift in "hi" and "hi-loc". I try i just hear a grinding sound. Next I put it in Park, well then there is a grindin sound, back to nutral, it did the grindin noise in everything but nutral. Well then I shut the truck off and put it in park, and blocked the wheels off. and then i had to leave.

So I am Lost, The Grinding makes no sense in the transmission, cause its mostly all clutches, So thats why I thought tranfercase. So Please I need some help I dont even know where to start. I am having my buddy come over sunday and we are gonna wrench on it. Mainly cause this stuff aint light weight. lol

Edit: for the grindin noise in the park it wouldnt stip until i shifted out of gear.

Thanks

Sounds like the transfercase just doesn't want to get in gear.

The linkage on the 203 likes to jam up when it gets dirty and make it hard to get in gear.

So you either have to take it apart and grease it up, or keep on fighting with it.

One other option would be to twinstick it, but that would require more work.

I believe justhorseingaround did a post about twinsticking one a couple years ago, but I doubt the pics are still there.
That would cure your problem and prevent it from happing again, but like I said, it would be more work and require some fab skills.

good luck
Bob

I concur with the t-case not engaging.

Take the tranny tunnel cover off and clean all the shifting linkage for the T case. On my 74 I had a similar problem with the 203 and tokk the linkage all apart and soaked the parts in a solvent then cleaned up, put new bolts in (at least the ones that were replaceable at the hardware store and put it all back together and lubed it up and it worked fine.

but why would there being grinding in the transmission gears? Also the 203 will only shift into high and high loc. It wount go anymore foward. I cant even force it to go more foward.

Pullin off the transtunnel on mine is kinda a PITA cause i have carpet.

I can't explain why, all I can tell you is if you get the transfercase in gear, then the grinding sound will go away.
I've had the same problem before, and you either have to take it apart and fix it , or fight with it each time you shift it.
Now remember, it is does not have a brain,:doah: you do, so dont let it beat you. You can win.:haha:

BTW I dont believe you have to remove the tunnel and can get tp it from below.
And if fabbing up the twinstick is beyond your ability, you can buy them. here is a couple more links on twinsticking .

Now it works perfect:confused:

But i got out to a local spot where i do some mild wheelin,a big snow bank in front of the enterance, i thought i could make it through in 2 wheel drive, nope well I though you could shift from high to high loc on the fly, well it didnt i had to put the tranny in nutral. But everywhere else it would shift on the fly. so IDK

What are the advanages to twin stick 203, and how hard is it to install one from ORD for a total noob at this stuff.

Thanks
