Ok so earlier today i put a rubber trans pan gasket on trying to fix the leak it was doing before. It had a cork gasket on it. Well i drove it home topped off the oil level and 4 hours later(bout 20min ago) i go outside to get my keys out of the truck 4 the night(since the tops off:rolleyes:) and i see this rather large oil slick under the truck...im thinkin in my head **** its late ive got a huge mess on this concrete that i gotta clean up AND find out what the heck is goin on b4 school tomorrow morning:doah: What do i do guys??? Its been givin me hell for way to long now and i thought we had fixed it with the rubber pan gasket:mad:

^^^^^^^ what he said . I just put a new $1400.00 700r4 in my 83 K5 about 3 weeks ago , the previous owner had about 3 to 4 sections of the preflared brake line tubing pieced together for each transmission line to the radiator! seems like i have a leak in a different place every damn day. but do wash/wipe it down real good and find out exactly where it is leaking. maybe you over tightened the pan bolts and squished the new gasket?not being a smart ass , but I have done it myself. I am going to buy some new transmission lines long enough to get from the trans to the radiator in one piece and route / bend them like they should be . good luck

When i first looked at it it was dripping from the passenger side bout mid way back. It looked to be like it was dripping from the gasket but i really couldnt get under there without getting oil all over me. So i moved it and went underthere and made sure all the bolts were shrug and they all checked out good. AND it stopped leaking??? Before i moved it there was a steady drip from the pan to the drive shaft and then down to ground which is how it has always has done it. It has always dripped from this side so now im thinking somewhere else but dont know were to look on that side for a leak other then the fill tube. i felt around that and it wasnt wet. It was more wet behind the modulator(i think) its a 700R4 btw.

torque converter?

i had an 84 K5 diesel that i had converter to gas. the current engine is a 350 out of a 83 chevy truck. the truck shakes a lot since the conversion. enough shaking to shake the 2 tranny support arms loose. the other day i was driving on the highway and noticed that smoke was pouring out of the back. when i pulled over to see the problem, i noticed that there was tranny fluid everywhere under the truck. ive been told everything from motor mounts to torque converter. if torque converter can someone direct me in the right way. also, im not sure how to tell if its a 27 or 30 spline 700-r4.
thanks for your help

Did you remove the torque converter inspection shield and have a good look to make sure the converter or pump area isnt leaking. The reason i say that is because if it leaks from the pump , its likely going to leak onto the cast portion that holds the pan, with speed of the road its going to blow back. If its slow enough of a leak it can look like a pan leak.If it leaks more when parked, Ill side with boondock, also check the T.V. cable boot/ kickdown o-ring after a good cleaning.

I think(hope) we found the problem. The bolt holding the TV cable on was rather looser tightened that up topped it off and put it at inclines where the fluid is on that side and put it level and not a single drip just gotta keep my fingers crossed on this one....

Wow this is kinda old. Well i can tell you this. The problem is no longer present. Now i cant remember exactly if this was the fix. I remember at some point we bought something that resembled a body spacer(if memory is serving me right). Which was basicly used to kinda spread the down force on the whole tv cable mounting area since the bolt is more to one side which gives it the ability to go on crooked which caused my leak.
Also make sure your seal that is there is on good and in good shape. If you need anything else just ask.
