ok cool... what is the big advantage to polly mounts? the damn things costs $55 each versus $7 for the rubber mount......

Do I have to have polly?

well first you posted a mount that looked nothin like your truck mount . :D

thats o.k. you are smart and asked.

and 84-down is that style.

if you have rubber engine mounts then run rubber tranny/tcase mounts.

if polly then all has to be polly tranny/tcase and engine.

also why do you think yours are shot. ? thay just look well rust proffed in oil .

"""if you have rubber engine mounts then run rubber tranny/tcase mounts.

Why is this? I never understood why they both need to be polly or rubber ...
I did get new motor mounts not long ago...but dont know if they are rubber or polly....

take screw driver and try and stab the motor mounts. if it acts like rubber or the tcase mounts you got then rubber.

polly is harder and if clean real shinny

reason to use 1 or other on all is thay flex and act diffrent. polly is stiffer and wont flex as much but make the truck fell smother i think.

thanks... Im pretty sure my new motor mounts are polly (look like shinny hard black plastic - not the soft rubbery compond)

I guess I will get new polly mounts for underneth too..

any tricks to the installing the new mounts ? unscrew the old ones and jack up the t case a few inches ... slide on the new ones?

I think you need to remove the tcase to change out the tcase bolts and mounts. If not I still would remove the tcase just to lighten up the load some. just my preferance.

huge waste of time. not needed at all. and the tcase he has is over 200 lbs in weight. not somthing to play with if you dont have to.

the bolts go up in to the adaptor. then the tcase adaptor just sits on the mounts. lift up a few inch with floor jack and swap out super easy and bolt back together.

thats why we here spend 25 bucks a year to help each other out. cant get this kind of info most any other place i know of. :thumb:

you never said why your changing them ??? thay look normal on top.

If you decide to get the rubber rear tranny/ tcase mounts let us know the quality of the parts. Where they are made and if they are stout. I need to replace these mounts also no my rig. My current mounts look like they have melted. Yours look much better. Anchor and West(something) are the two manufactures that make the mounts.

I decided not to go poly because I think it may be rougher on the tranny/ engine.

Be sure to have the tranny support struts installed for support.

I can see it being extra work to remove the tcase. just my preference. I changed it once before... but used some old mounts. bad choice. anyways my concern with lifting the tranny and tcase with out the support of the mount is that the tcace (on the auto is aluminum and the tcase is iron) It just puts more stress on an area that can be a problem area with stress cracks. just my 2 cents. Many other people on this thread know a lot more then i do.

Poly doesn't treat the engine any different then rubber does when its new the poly stays better alot longer thats why it works better.

I've ran a poly mount on a trans in a car with stock rubber engine mounts awhile back with no ill effects, i believe that rule mostly applies to when you're running solid mounts, they all need to be, is what i heard. I wouldn't run solids anyways, so no concern for me.. :D

you could get away with mixing and matching poly and rubber for awhile if they are all fresh and your not beating on it... where you run into issues is when the poly's have stayed the same and the rubber ones get soft... bad juju there....

hehe, i ran a 71 Challenger with solids and a 340... talk about a "hotrod" feel.... ;) not for the faint of heart.....

I've always heard that the engine mounts just need to be the stiffest in the bunch
