installed the mounts on my 4wd 84 Blazer 700R4 auto, the question is how tight should i tie them in?

as for the 4wd mounts, there are 4 pieces 2 large and 2 small, first the small under the metal plate then the big on over the plate and connecting to the tranny.

i don't want to over tighten them.. so should i torque them in to a specific torque?

i dont want to squash the new ones

Lock rings all around, blue lock tight if your worried about them falling out and 1/2" ratchet down tight.

Is this what you are asking?

6. Strut rod (automatic transmission) (figure 5).
Tighten
• Transmission end bolts to 47 N»m (35 ft. lbs.).
• Transfer case end bolts to 175 N»m (129 ft.
lbs.).

Maybe it's in the earlier manuals, but I couldn't find the torque spec for the trans mount. I don't know as any of them are particularly critical, although they will tend to vibrate out if not torqued well, and loctite wouldn't hurt.

If you want to spend lots of time looking that sort of thing up, you can download most of the service/wiring manuals here: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/showpost.php?p=5621043&postcount=1

Torque specs are generally found at the end of each sub-section, but the contents page of each section will tell you.

thanks for the great and useful info, but the 4WD transmission mounts are only four pieces of Rubber bolted to the transmission... there is no ends tied together

You cant squish those unless you were to go total retard with an impact gun or something. The metal tube in the center that the bolt goes thru (middle piece in pic) prevents the rubber/urethane clam from collapsing. degrease the bolts/nuts real good, throw some blue locktight on there and tighten them snug with a ratchet. Then go another 1/2 turn. If you wanna use a torque wrench..40 ft/lbs would be fine. Check them after you've driven it for a bit to see in anyone of them has loosened up..re-tighten as needed.

thanks, the ones i have are not from energy suspension.. they are some rubber brand

will be ordering from ES and keep them for later on

thanks again

My numbers show different because they are out of a later manual.

If you want the exact numbers, just download an '84 or older manual and it should be in there. But 40ft lbs is probably plenty, as suggested.

not trying to make more work for you, but if your tranny mounts are worn out you might want to check the motor mounts too. Maybe replace them all at once, then you know they are all good and you wont have to wonder/worry about twisting issues down the road..
