OK folks, the patient is a 2007 1500 with the 5.3 flex-fuel engine. 4 wheel drive.
I do not know which transmission, but its stock.

One of my friends came down to the swamp with this truck. I was packing to head out, so did not get as many details as needed.
He bought it used just recently, and has a warranty which runs out in about a year.
On top of my lack of information, I did not get a chance to drive it, or do any kind of diagnostics on it.
I will be headed back down sometime next week, and if he is still there, I will get more info. But here is what I have now.

He says when driving normally, there is a groan when the transmission upshifts from 2 to 3. Under load, it does not do it. Just when driving easily.
He took it back to the dealer. Not sure what order they did this in, but they said it was the saddle bearing and replaced that.
Then, they said it was a U-joint and replaced that.

Drove it with the reader hooked up, and said it was the transmission, and had to be fixed right away.
I saw the worksheet on that.
There was a gear of some kind, plus a sprag along with a pan gasket, and, I think, 16 quarts of atf.
There were several other parts, but those stuck with me.
When he went to get it, they told him that the radiator had to be replaced because of trash in it that caused the problem in the first place.

Remember, I am getting all this second hand. I did see the worksheet though.
After all that, they told him it was not in the transmission, but in the rear end.
But it was OK to drive it until next week when he should bring it in and they would fix it.

So far, there has been no charge for any of this work, but the truck still groans during the 2-3 shift. He did say that it seemed to be louder when it shifted turning a corner, which would tend to lend credence to the rear end theory.
However, I do not ever remember a rear end making a noise only during one shift.
1 to 2 seems to be OK.

Any and all ideas welcome.
I wish I had more information, but I had to meet someone, and I either have some kind of pneumonia, pleurisy, a pulled muscle or maybe lung cancer and its giving me a fit when I try to take a deep breath.
Plus I am just generally weak for some reason.

So, it was all I could do to get packed and head out.
I'm going to lay around some tomorrow, and head to work on Monday if I can get out of bed.

This will be the first year in almost 40 that I do not spend new year's in the swamp.
I told my friend that I was going to post his problem to the biggest collection of Mechanics, tinkerers, geniuses, dumb*sses and general all around great guys I had ever run into.

Told him if these guys cannot come up with any suggestions, you might as well dump it.

Be careful with the breathing thing. A few years ago I couldn't take a full breath, man it hurt bad. Went to the emergency room, thought I was having a heart attack or something. They rush me to cardiac care and hooked up a couple of hundred machines, took blood, X rays, gave me oxygen, but it still hurt. Finally found a viral infection on the back side of one of my lungs that would hit the spine when I took a breath. A shot and a handful of horse pills and a couple of days and I was good again. Scared the pee out of me.

Be careful!

Hopefully I will get a chance to ride in it next week. I should get a better idea of what is going on then.
If its a harmonic, I can stuff some rags or a stick around the exhaust for a few minutes to make sure.
I was mainly curious if anyone else had had this problem.

And, BS......Hmm, that don't work. British Slave, yep, thats better. I know what you mean about lungs. I have had a couple of supposedly fatal lung problems in the past, so I am a little spooky when it comes to breathing.
But, its a little better this morning, and I am not coughing up blood like I was a couple of weeks ago, so I figure its getting better.

I don't know what the heck kind of flu I had, but it put me down for the count for about 3 weeks, and I still cannot talk well.
I'll give it another week or so, and if I'm not better, I'll go back to the doctor.

I will second the harmonic, I had that too on a different car and it's true it does happen on one gear and only when light footed, push it and it will disapear.
If it is, my solution was to put one more support that made it stiffer, it had about 8 feet with no support.

Hopefully I will get a chance to ride in it next week. I should get a better idea of what is going on then.
