I installed a new (Crate 350 Engine)in my 1985 K5 and now I am wondering if I need to work on the tranny also. The truck is kinda sluggish and not very responsive, a distinctive "CLUNK" when shifting and slow when I give it gas. I am wondering would it be better to rebuilt the tranny, or replace it, if so what kind? Originally it was a TH700R4 but I am open to another one which will make it move a little smoother. Thoughts??

Axles

GM Corporate 10-bolt (8.5-in. 1.28 Axle Dia. 28 Spline) Is what I have in the rear. Everything is pretty much stock axle wise.

Your "sluggish" feeling probably has a lot to do with a possible 3.08/1 gear ratio.

I would agree with that. Has the tv cable been checked and properly adjusted since the engine was installed? This is a super critical setting and could ruin the trans if not allowing adequate pressure rise with throttle opening. A cable setting that is too loose will cause the trans to shift too early, making the vehicle very sluggish feeling.

That carb could use some help as far as TV geometry goes. You should invest in a TV correction lever to get the correct travel and geometry. Once you have the lever in place and the cable attached, just rotate the throttle to wide open, set the cable so there is absolutely no pull left in it at all without restricting throttle travel, and lock it down. Again, cable should be as tight as it can possibly be at wide open throttle.

Thank You, I hope that help, pretty basic procedures, but I always say that in the beginning, its after everythings apart I say now what was I supposed to do..haha Thanks
