Hi folks,

I just blew my tranny in my 91 GMS Jimmy which has a 4L60. I have a 700R4 which I want to put in it but I need to know if there is anything in particular that I have to watch for or change or is it a straight swap. Is there a difference in the kickdown cable for the Overdrive linkage. If anyone can help my out on this it would be great. Need the truck for Monday.

As far as I'm aware they are exactly the same box. early and late 700s had different parts due to upgrades but the 4L60 was a name change only. 4L60E is a different box though as far as wiring and control is concerned.

4L60 runs off the comp...but does it have a TV cable still? the 700 will need it.

Might have to find a way to "trick" the ECM as the 4l60 was controlled by the computer. Speed sensor will go to the ECM, maybe the TC lockup; backup lights and 4x4 indicator could need plugs changes. You'll need the TV cable for kickdown and to regulate the valve pressure. Summit Racing sells the TV cables for $50 and they should have the bracket to attach it to the intake manifold as well.

4L60 and 700R4 are the same thing only the name changed.

The 4L60E is the electronic version.

Which one do you have? It makes the swap a little different.
