So I got a 88 c1500 with the 350tbi. I'm going to be swapping it for a 454tbi engine sooner rather than later from what's information I have gathered the 454tbi is pretty much straight forward and a direct swap. I have been informed and correct me if I'm wrong that the 700r4 trans and the 4l80e trans are two different trans both will mount up but both have different wiring and different plugs?? I am looking a direct swap with minimal to no modifications as wiring is not my strong suit I am trying to reuse the original wiring harness I can splice in new plugs if need be.
So I guess my question is wich transmission would better suit this application I am going to be towing and hauling alot of equipment with this truck at highway speeds
Any and all information is greatly appreciated

You will need a controller for the 4l80, and a new transfer case if you don't have one allready.

So I will be buying a fully rebuilt 454tbi and full rebuilt either 700r4 or 4l80e trans plus tcase for it. And what do you mean by getting a controller?? As you can prolly tell I haven't done very many engine swaps I have swapped engines for the original engine but not swapping for different engines if that makes sense lol

What year truck is this going in, if the truck had a 700 from the factory it needs a separate controller for the transmission and the engine will need a tps module. A ls swap would be simpler at this point

An 88 should have the 700r4 in it. So a 700r4 replacement would the easiest. The 4l80e is computer controlled so needs that added.

Easiest would be the big 454 and 700r4. The TBI will need to be changed to the BBC unit. The existing ECM should run it as is, if the engine is stock.

Do 454 swap with 700r4 not only rebuilt, but built for big block.
Your experience from the engine swap will give you confidence.
So if/when the 700r4 gives up you'll be ready to do the 4l80e swap

It is a 88 Chevy pick up 1500 with a 350tbi 4x4

So the 700r4 is what should come stock with 350tbi?? And will still mount and work for the 454tbi but could possibly be the week link/first thing to go ?? Correct me if I'm wrong

Will the 700r4 be able to handle heavy duty towing I am swapping to half ton also and will be doing a lot of towing with this truck and a lot at highways speeds
