I think my tranny is shot. Pulled up to a light getting ready to turn right...took foot off the brake and pressed the gogo pedal and nothing, engine just revved. Tried all the gears and nothing. Had to push it around the corner into a parking lot with the help of my 12 year old daughter and my 4 year old getting nervous in the backseat.

Have had a bit of a leak where the line meets the cooler so I check the fluid...a little low but it looked okay. Tried to put it in park but all it did was grind, couldn't get it shift into any gear. Added some fluid but that didn't do anything.

Any ideas? This came with no warning. Has been running just fine.

Oh I forgot to mention this is the 4l80e in the 98 1 ton.

Could be the linkage...

Or, your t-case is in between gears...

Didn't think about the transfer case. I did use it today at work...put it in 4lo for a few minutes. Maybe it didn't get locked into 2hi good enough. I will check that. Thanks.

It was the transfer case...got bumped into neutral. I feel like such an idiot. Thanks for the idea dirtygoat...you're a lifesaver. I had come home and was starting to price trannys on C/L and panic...d*mn expensive. Thankfully it was something simple.

No problem, glad it was that and not the tranny...

As soon as I read that it just clicked in park, that popped in my head...:D

Yep, grinding when you try to shift into park, means no load on the output of the tranny.
Transfer case 99% of the time.
