Hey quick question my friend has a 1992 chevy pickup 1500 4X4 with a 5 speed.what type of transmission did GM use.he is pretty sure he f***ed up the transmission in it.

Thanks

On a 1/2 ton it is prolly a NV 3500. If it is an all aluminum case, with bell housing cast as part of it it is a NV 3500. It is a light duty trans

it is an all aluminum case.
also what did the use for a transfercase on those?

and also how hard is it to swap transmission on a 92 pickup?

Thanks

Xfer case is a 241. R&R a 3500 is not hard they are very light. All you need is a good floor jack. It is a piece of cake if you have a tranny jack.

yah dont have a tranny jack. have two 4 ton floor jack thou.now just got to find a trans. we found one with 30,000 miles on for $1300, does that sound right?

That is high dollar for a used 3500 you should be able to get a rebuilt for less than that.
What is wrong with the tranny? If it does not shift. That is a common problem with them. Usually just a bent or broken shift fork or pawl. It is a top loader trans. Before you pull it. Un bolt the shifter pull it out and look for broken or bent parts.

My friend thinks its the tranny it seems to go clunk every time the wheel goes around.pretty sure its not in the rear end we pulled the cover everything looks good.we spun the the axels by hand and it doesnt do it then.

it's common for a pin in the shifter tower to break too. Eventually it'll get stuck in one gear...happened to my '88 C1500.
