i have an 80 k5 i'm about to build, and i decided to paint it b4 its a ''hulk''

its pre-81 body style, i have a few spots in the front floorboard(where weatherstip slides on)to patch, then paint, the truck has all the trim and complete front grill is chrome, its white w/red inside of the trim.

it will be flatblack w/realtree hardwoods hd vinyl inside of the trim, which leads me to my question, i like the idea of my trim dividing the ''2 tone'', but w/flat black and camo as my 2 colors, i'd like to do something w/ shiny trim, grille, &mirrors.i'm thinking possibly od green, but don't think i'd like it, proll like next combo more...

i thought maybe go od green/camo and flat black the trim and other chrome, but i really want the flat black/camo....the shiny trim, grill, & silverado mirrors,...i'd like to make look like black anodized or smoked chrome,..any coatings anyone knows of that will do this.

i know at paint stores they can mix diff translucensey, would a 25-40% tranlucencent black give this effect...or any ideas..other than sittin out there w/a zippo smoking it up wipe off until desired smoke effect is present, altho i would do it if no other way,..i want smoked chrome/black anodized, whats the best route...i know we have some bodymen who know how to smoke up the brite stuff...please any advise other than picking an above scheme

edit: inside will be rhino/herc lined w/ realtree seat covers and black dash and door panels...all the rest of inside will stay white ...it has all the inside trim in white and i'm leaving it for now! may swap out parts as i find them, but i want to keep all inside white trim,...may go back white ,i like white, after 4 yrs and vinyl is peeling? but right now i just want to look big&menicing

im not sure about durability but, my friend has a lowered ranger and he bought this spray paint that is specially made to "smoke" tail lights, its about $15 a can (a pretty big can) and its lasted a long time on his lights and came out real smooth too, u can keep adding on layers to make it darker, if you want i can get the name of it from him for u.

we sell some spray paint at work that is called MetalKote....it goes on over chrome or any metallic base and gives it an anodized look...ill look tomorrow and see if it comes in black...ive seen it in red, blue, green, yellow, and purple

We use to make/spray our own window tint back in the day at the bodyshop... Any darkness/hue ya wanted... Also MANY pearl in the clear hotrods..

The options are endless when your standing in front of a tint machine... :haha: Obviously I'm talking 2-part stuff here, but any tech ya need on modifying/working with clears, gimme a holla...

i just read that the spray on tint stuff, is actually enamel paint...i wonder if an even coat of that would black chrome my trim...i kinda like the ulta black stuff too, but it looks just as shiny as chrome just black, really cant decide my trim/grill color to go w/flat black & camo vinyl,..leave it shiny,..maybe od green the color srtipe in the trim and do the grill/bumper in ultra black?

Well, this was 20 yrs ago.. Nothing store bought, just tinted, urethane clear...

personally, I like a satin finish on grills, etc...

think i'll match my new powdercoated rims w/paint as close as i can, and paint all shiny stuff w/it...which is sorta satin graphite gray...should look ok,..the gray matches the camo also,...then od green where color is in the oe side trim...now......i just gotta do it...i've ordered the vinyl:D

the lady at paint store knew her stuff...man, i was surprised to see our store has house of kolor

I've got a few paint suppliers that I've been using for 25 yrs.. Let's just say, I know them well... :wink1:

Matter of fact, I need to stop tomorrow for Roloc's and flattening agent.. :doah:
