As some of you know, my wife and I are in Vancouver, WA to visit our grand-daughter. It was actually colder this morning when we landed in Portland than it was in Anchorage when we left last night. Well, we had some time to kill this morning so we went and hung out with a buddy south of Portland. The wind was gusting over 50 mph and there were tree branches all over the roads. We were follow out friend on the way to lunch when we came upon this:

Note the rather large Douglas Fir laying on the ground in the second picture. The blonde lady was in the passenger front seat. She and her husband were able to crawl out of the truck. There daughter was not so lucky:

They gave a thumbs up after they got her on the back-board and loaded her in the ambulance. As scary as the rescue was to begin with, it was made terrifying by the large electrical fire caused by the downed power line:

In the thirty minutes that we were there, there were three huge explosion from transformers. I felt the concussion from two of them.
We came upon the scene just as the first firetruck rolled up and directed traffic (it happened at the entrance to a round-a-bout) for about twenty minutes before the police relieved us. They thanked us and took over.
Anyway, I count myself lucky to be alive. This reinforced the fact that my time could be up any time and to not take life and loved ones for granted.

Been crazy in these parts lately, we don't get this kind of wind very often.

A tree came off a bank and sheered a power pole right above the phone lines on the Washougal River Road. Couldn't believe that it cut it clean off.

this might be a stupid question but,is their daughter alive?
Not a stupid question at all. Yes, she is alive. It did not appear that she had life threatening injuries. They moved her around pretty quick and it looked like the backboard was just a precaution.
