Well, I had underestimated the distance to Cabelas form here.
It was just over 160 miles one way:eek1::eek1:

I still had fun in the store though, and I bought the lures I wanted. No new reel though. I just don;t have the $$ for it right now:(

Anyway, I took the new gear out today and caught a few fish.
Largemouth Bass = 4
Pickrel = 3
Brim = 1

One of the Bass was huge compared to the typical bass that I have caught in MS. I think I found a new fishing hole:D
Pics below. Bass first.

Here are some shots of the Pickrel. I hate these damn fish.
When I was growing up in NY I would always fish for Pike and Muskie. They are related to Pickrel, but these damn things are small and annoying......and have lots of sharp teeth:eek1:

I liked it, first time in a Cabelas. I have been to Gander and BPS many times though.

I just wish I had the money to buy a new rod/reel.

I like the Cabelas better than the Bass Pro Shop. I seem to have alot better luck with Cabelas. What rod and reel set up are you using now? I just purchased a new ugly stick and bait caster. I have not had a chance to use them yet been to busy chasing quail and coyote's

I am using a Quantim spinning on a BPS tourney rod. It is a two piece but other than that it works pretty well.
My good one piece broke in one of my moves.

I have fished the ugly stick rods before and don't really like them. The tip action is too loose and the base of the rod looses all feeling. They are good for a budget rod though.

I have been using the "light" ugly sticks and they seem to feel good to me. I am pretty hard on my fishing rods. I just started using the bait casters and really like them. I was unsure about using the bait caster so I purchased the Cabela's brand and I really like them.

I wish I could afford a fenwick my buddy exclusively buys fenwick and they are very nice.
