Sorry this is long but I have to vent.
I just returned from moab and I had a blast. I can't wait to round up more friends and go next year for a week to get more trail time in.
So the Bad first. I left from NE at 5 after work and headed to vail to my cousins house. The tranny acted a little goofy but never caused a problem till I pulled off the vail exit on the I 70. After I slow down and get into town it would only go 35 at about 4K no shifting. It was 2 in the morning so I waited till morning. I didn't think it would be a big deal till the govener checked out good. Now what? I called my trans expert back home and discovered the band was broken. We limped it to moab to be repaired while we where there. I called moab 4X4 cause they were listed in my moab trail book to see if they could help me. They found me a tranny a car quest and said for 50 per hour they could do it on monday. Well for 200-250 I would rather have someone put in the tranny so I could ride with my buddies. Monday at 8 am I limp my truck there with the tranny thinking in 4-5 hours it would be done be back at 3-4. Get there at 5 and they only just started it and it would be the next day at noon. Thats the day we were leaving in the afternoon but I guess it would do. The next afternoon I get there its done but the bill is for 70 per hour instead. For that much I would have wrangled it myself. We had just enough time to do the first part of fins and things and my truck worked great and even went up a few hills we came down to prove it would work good. The rear bumper did drag a bit but I'll fix that for next year. Pack up and away we go. After leaving the shop the radio didn't work so I replaced the fuse. On the trip back to vail as soon as it hit 4th gear the fuse popped again (radio and tcc use the same fuse duh). So I pulled the trans connecter and drove it home with a eagle eye on the trans temp gauge. I had to rewire the tcc to work with my 84s system. So it cost more and they did a poor job checking it out. I wouldn't recommend them to my worst enemy.
As far as Moab all I can say is WOW. I rode in my buddies new rubicon and had a great time riding. met some great guys there and wheeled with them the rest of the time. I can't wait till next year to go again to prove a lwb will go were a rubicon will.
