I guess I am officially a hoarder of the Guide Power Beams now:

I found three and they all work and have all the connectors on the back

Now for some trucks I saw...these photos taken with cell phone so not as good as with my Nikon:

ohhh the cc has potential!

I had never seen a "Travel Quest" before

Travel Quest was a company, in Texas, that built custom interiors as an option for new Chevy trucks. This truck was a real nice truck at one time. This would be a great truck to restore, but it takes a lot of time money and energy to do that, and most people do not have it, which is why trucks like this go to the crusher eventually.

I wish our local junkyard had anything worth taking a picture of.

They are dwindling at an alarming rate. I know of three salvage yards within 20 miles of here and not one of them have more than 5 or ten at most...and they are picked over hard.

I want to go up into Tennessee and visit some yards up there but I don't know where they are at. These yards are mostly word of mouth only.

Yeah, there are few yards I know of that I think probably would have some old stuff but I've never been to them, they are almost an hour away.

You don't see any old trucks up here in boneyards any more--the very few that do show up,are rotted out shells that are picked over and not much of any value remains--none are "restoreable"...if any that are come along, usually the yards owners keep them for themselves--or put them on E-bay for top dollar...

I'd love to go poking around in some southern junkyards--but I'd bee leery of finding a rattlesnake or water mocasin in the vehicles!....

There are snakes but that's why I carry snake load in my pistol when I go to the yard...if I can't get away or around them. Water mocasins are very aggressive and I have had them "charge" me or chase me. But, that said, in all my trips to the yards I have only seen one or two...I know they are there though.

Also, there aren't that many parts yards anymore. I would love to go out west and look through theirs.

Is that a 348/409 in the blue 70? GMC?

Yeah.looks like a 305 or 351 V6...most had a 2 bbl Stromberg carb, which were troublesome--most got ditched and replaced with an adapter to allow a Holley or Ford Autolite style carb bolt up..

I wish I had snagged one of those engines that was at a local salvage yard--both ran too, trucks they were in were driven through the gate..

that's a decent grill on that one too....don't know if they make them repro or not.

I really wanted to take the dash console out of that other one but couldn't figure out how it came out. The whole front end of that one is chopped off

Last time I went to the normal yards around here I couldn't find anything older than late 80's. They use to have all sorts of stuff, but any more recently they've been "cleaning" up the yards and seemingly not putting anything older out in the yard, which is annoying. It's been a little while since I went to any yards here, though, so it might have been just the last couple times I went. I just don't have the time to drive to all the yards like I use to. Not to mention most have increased their prices by a lot.

Snakes I can deal with. My big problem is those damn hornets! They are just plain mean and I think they like stinging us fat people!

I got stung a few hundred times when I worked at a junkyard, and it seems every time I go snooping in one for parts I find hornets and get at least one sting..

And I've developed an allergy to them in my old age it seems--I never had any issues other than pain from stings until about 5 years ago--my arm swelled up so bad I had to cut my sweatshirt off with sissors ,and take antibiotics for a week to get the swelling down--also had a bad athsma attack after being stung then too..perhaps it was just one species of bald faced wasp I am allergic too--but now I stay the hell away from any hornets I see...

One good thing about this winter was it was fairly "warm",many 50 and 60 degree days, yet cold enough to keep any wasps and snakes, spiders, and other creepy things at bay...worst time to go junk-yarding is summer, and spring can suck too, since most yards here are swampy and loaded with black flies and mosquitoes..one day while I was lying under a truck removing some parts,a tree frog crawled up my pant legs..
I still have a scar on my scalp from bashing my head on the frame, trying to get out from under the truck at warp speed..
