Somebody told me that I could snag a 14BFF for much less than what I was expecting. I seem to be having a hard time finding this rear end though. I'm just typing 14BFF or other variation in Craigslist but am not really coming up with anything. Is there something else I should be searching for? What models did this normally come in?

Also, I've been saving parts to replace the brake components on my stock rear and front. Should I return those and buy new brake components for the 14BFF, and if so, when I need parts for it what do I tell the guy at the parts counter? Or should I finish the job and buy and build up my 14BFF and Dana60 to where I want it and take my time then keep my stockers for spares. OR sell the stockers once I can do the 52" 4" lift and the upgraded axles all at once.

Sorry, lots of questions I know, I just like running things by you guys first in case there's something I don't know or something I overlooked because I'm still new to the platform. I tried searching but couldn't come up with much, I'm also running on 6 hours of sleep over the past 2 days though. Ok....stop typing.:doah:

Expand your search on CL, I did and got a 3/4 ton 14 bolt and Dana 60 from a guy in Colorado springs.
As for the build, I bought my blazer with bad brakes, crappy steering components etc came home on a flat bed (stock 77 K5). My intentions try to do it right the first time around.

I also take it the gearing in the front axle needs to match the rear? For example 4.10 front axle needs 4.10 rear?

I found this guy but is that a normal price for two axles or is he off his rocker?
I was told I can get a rear for under $300, not sure about the front though. Plus another couple hundred in new drums, shoes, pads and hardware kit.

I encountered similar problems down here in MS. I found that most people don't part trucks out through craigslist, they just set them out front to rust until someone stops by and gives them an offer or they tote it to the scrap yard.

I'm sure in colorado the shortage is due to more demand though

I would take a day off work and go walk the scrapyards personally. I can't find a single posting on CL for the past month for this area but if I go 5 miles northwest to our local junkyard I can point out three of four 14bff from the road. I also just like poking around junkyards. I yanked out mine for 200.00 and put in about another 200.00 for gears and brakes + cleaning/paint. They can be snatched up for very cheap.

if thay were from a m-1008 style truck with 4.56 and detroit locker mabye 1500 cash .

but he is not to far off. 800 seperate rear yes he is off the range.

but if you look close that dana 60 has spicer front lockout hubs. those are the best for a 60 other than drive flanges. but this also might have neckdown inner axle shafts.

if me and i needed them i would go check them out if close. then offer him 1k cash and show it to him. if he argues tell him its the first few years of the 60 and has weeker shafts and looks like it needs brakes redone and seals.

also the drums on these big boys dont go bad much. there thick inside. and most people do disk swap rear and if using m-1008 14ff rear axle then thay will have real clean if not new brake parts and you can find them cheep sometimes.

my 79k30 has the orignal drums still on the rear. stops just fine. :thumb:

I can't remember all of what I posted. It's a shame a lot of the posts here got lost. It had some good info.

But just to recap.
-Don't spend more than $400 on a 14BFF?
-Also SFs don't have hubs sticking through the drums and have a roundish cover.
-The couple more posts I found of guys wanting $1500-$4500 on 14BFF&D60s are guys thinking their stuff is made from gold and hand cast by virgins.
- I might be going to Kansas
- I was also told to get this one http://denver.craigslist.org/pts/2141355231.html

I would just go check out some of the junk yards around Denver. That is one of the few reasons I wished I still lived there. Where I'm at now, can't find anything useful for a decient price.

Yep, best decision to go to Kansas instead.

Buy 2 of these 14FF's for $200 and take them back home. Use one for your rig and sell the other back out locally for $200. You'll have a very quick sale if you list it for that price. And enjoy the other 14FF for "free" minus fuel costs to get here and back.

it's hard for me to grasp how difficult it is getting a rear 14b

I see them all the time in junkyards. 3/4 and 1 ton. Now the D60 fronts and rears, those I never see.

14bff

keep an eye out here on the western slope. there are always trucks being parted out for cheap with the FF.
I paid $75 for mine out of a 98 burb and got the 63" springs to go with it :woot:

There is a 14B FF and a Dana 60 in the junkyard on my street in a pre 81 wrecker. It is the 1st time I`ve seen a GM Dana 60 siting in a yard.

If you are only searching Craigslist than that is giving you a really limited availability. You need to start looking at junkyards or for complete trucks.
