Trouble shooting distributor issues or timing?

So just recently my k5 started to act up a bit and here's how it goes

When im driving right when i hit 35 the truck starts to shudder a little bit then a little more violently all the way till i reach 45. after 45 shes smooth again until i drop back to 35 and try to accelerate again. if i hit the throttle the stuttering goes away and i accelerate out of it. it usually only happens when im cruising at 35 then try to increase my speed. if i take off from stop and keep on the accelerator it runs very smooth all the way to 70.

So im wondering if i have a distributor problem or my plugs are bad or somethin? could it be a timing issue or am i way off? i just wanted a second opinion or two before i go ahead and replace the plugs distributor cap and even the wires if the problem persists. Thanks for any help

is that a carb or injected? sounds fuel related to me....

'86 should be the last year of the Rochester Quadrajet carburetor (in K-series trucks, anyway), everything after that used some sort of fuel injection.

Old/bad gas will screw them up, just like anything else (could be that, very unlikely).

Q-jets are probably the best carburetors ever designed but they do have some quirks, especially the later ones.

Carburetor/ignition problems are pretty easy to diagnose; check resistance on the wires, gap/condition of the plugs, etc.

Many "carburetor" problems are misplaced ignition problems. Good places to check but I doubt either is the source of your problem.

Where is the timing set?

It sucks, but I'd put my money on trans failure :(
