I searched, but maybe not for the right thing.

In the last week or so I have seen a couple of old trucks with a step built (bolted) right into the side of the bed body. Looks like a cast aluminum.

Were these factory on some older truck? Does someone make them still?

Anyone?

I've seen them too...

If your talking about the ones that you'd cut a hole in the side of the bed to install, and they bolt in with bolts around the outer edges,I have seen those on older GM trucks too--on the "longhorn" versions they had in the 69-72 era..

I've seen aftermarket ones at RV centers, but long ago..don't know who made them either,sorry..ones I saw were diamond plate aluminum, looked to be cast..I bet someone still sells them..J.C. Whitney maybe??...

MNorbys K5 has one

I believe those were factory on the older body (67-72) maybe an option thing and i've also seen those same year trucks with a storage compartment as well, once again factory and probably an option thing.

You must be able to get them somewhere. The first one I saw was on an old Ford truck, not a Chevy. So they must have been available at some time.

Working on it will let ya know if I find the half moon type.

The storage thing was more common on the older trucks, based on a highly scientific count :haha: of me looking at trucks I see, but was also available for the 73+:

Can't find anything on the step, but then I'm still a bit weak on 67-72.

I have called several of the Heavy Truck shops (box service type) and can't find any of the half moon type. Sorry

I betcha I could build something like that without too much cussin!

I was looking for the recessed step too, when I found AW Direct. I had forgotten the "arch" style until it was mentioned here. I was thinking one (or two) would be good in the front fender, just forward of the door hinges; so I could step up to clean the windsheild.:D
