You folks have been helpful in the past so i figured i'd get some opinions on a pending project. i have an 88 c2500 ext cab long bed base model truck that was given to me. its been a great truck after i swapped most of the engine electronics and swapped out the bad transmission. having the full size bed and extended cab has come in very handy but the lack of AC and the lack of 4x4 has been the biggest downfalls. After doing a bit of research it looks like the frame is the same as the k2500 which means i should be able to use the brackets for the k2500 solid axle swap. i know there will still be a bit of work involved and i'd need to swap axles (which i just missed a set of d60 front and 14 bolt ff for $250 with springs) as well as the transmission swap. it seems (and i may be kidding myself) that it could be fairly inexpensive to do if i wait for the parts to pop up.
but my question is would it be worth it since the truck will still have no AC and no power anything.
my list of pro's so far:
-due to age no emissions
-i know the history of the truck
-truck is in great shape (minus a couple spots that need new panels)
- i'd end up with a solid axle lifted truck
cons are:
-no ac unless i find a parts truck and swap the dash components over along with the ac fixtures
-could be pricey in the end
-truck will be down for a while
thoughts and opinions are much appreciated. i tend to miss some obivious issues at times so and extra set of eyes is always good.
