Ok, so I have a 1985 K20 pickup that has no drive gears and I'm curious if maybe anyone has any idea what it could be before I dive into tearing it apart/replacing it

Your only hope is that the shift linkage is messed up. If that's not it, you're almost surely needing the trans torn down. IIRC, there is a sprag that fails, so it will go in manual low, but not drive. Have you tried all positions of the gear selector?

That's what I was afraid of. I did little kick on 1st and full hookup in reverse. I have the spare parts and all that jazz just hoping I can get off without needing the change because I'm alone on this project

If you are going to tackle this alone.
First please be careful. I highly recommend the big harbor freight trans jack. It can hold the trans and a np205/np203 mated.

safety first with these, i can tell you when i pulled my np205 it rolled and it almost squished me head!!!!!!
best thing was a jack specific to transmissions made life easier and safer

When I put my 203 back in, the damn thing fell. I got it the second time. The weight is distributed odd, and there is no square bottom for it to set on. You'll have to improvise a bit.

Keep clear as far as possible if you use the transmission jack. It works well but you have to strap the combo to the jack for safety.

Another way is to remove the transmission tunnel cover and use an engine hoist to lowes/raise.

I did do the 203 then the transmission separately and installed separately as well.

what helped me is the adapter i left it on the transfer case then made a holder out of wood
works great just have to hide it so it dont get tossed when im not around

I'm hoping for the best the issue other than the fact that I'm alone is I'm stuck doing this In the dirt, I dont even have a driveway

I had hoped that wasn't the case, dirt. Piece of ply might be the thing. The jack only needs to roll front to back maybe 4 to 6", to remove and install the trans.
Will there be any around?

I did it myself. Just go slow, and get plywood for the jack to roll on.

You can leave the cross connected as well.

Is there a gasket between my transmission and my t-case? Because if I'm changing transmissions I'm gonna have to remove the t-case from the old one

may be an oring. Is this a 700r4 and np208 combo or th350 Np208 or ?
