Went wheeling down at VA Tech today and my truck started idling rough, kind of sputtering while going down a hill, reved it and it went away. Went further down it died. Couldnt start it until we towed it back up the hill on the flat, I did try to bleed it by pulling off a few injecter lines but not sure if that helped. Also bled it at the filter, at one point in was kinda foamy, but now comes out in a steady line. It finally did start up. Its still sputtering, seems likes its hills that it doesnt like now. I can keep it running by reving it up.

I changed the fuel filter and put a full tank in. I have to drive 250 miles to get home. Does any one have any ideas?? Thanks

I had a leaking lift pump. Funny thing is it still ran okay that way.
However, after I changed it I just fired it up without bleeding the air out at the filter.
With the air mixed in, it ran like you describe. Would start, run rough, die. Could keep it running by revving. After a while the air finally bled out and runs good now.
So..it sounds like you have an air leak between your lift pump and injection pump. Possibly a bad lift pump. (About $23 and 1.5-2 hrs to install)
