so i finally made it to a pull last night with my blazer. it went pretty well for the most part. it was pulling alot better than i thought it was giong to until i found a weak weld on my anti-wrap bar bracket.... but i cant complain, i didnt break anything major. all i have to do is get a bigger welder to burn into the axle tube alittle better. sorry, myspace is the only thing i have to upload videos :doah:

EDIT: after watching the video again, at the very end you can hear my spart a$$ cousin saying "i thought you could weld" :haha:

Not too shabby:wink1: I've seen trucks similar to yours that don't even have enough power to get off the line:doah:

Who's 3400 Cavalier is that in the other video? I'm doing something similar with my '86 Celebrity VR coupe.

yeah i was really happy with the way it was pulling. i just wish my welds were alittle stronger on my ladder bars. they were really working because if you watch in the video, as soon as they break, i lose basically all traction. im getting them welded back on by a pro welder friend this week and im goin go give her hell this comming weekend again and see if it holds. as for the cavalier video, it was my first car. i built the motor a couple years ago. its actually a 3.1l block bored .030 over with 3400 top end thats ported, hyperutectic pistons, forged rods, balanced rotating assy, 1.6:1 roller rockers, stage 3 cam, yeah i had alot of work into that thing. it actually ran suprisingly well for alittle v6. it ate acouple of 5.0 mustangs :D. i actually built it for boost. i had a garrett t3/t4 60 trim turbo for it but i just never got around to doing it and i sold the car. :doah:

That's not quite the sound I was expecting... were you hammered down? I'm a noob to pulling, what weight do you start with on the line?

im a noob also with pulling, and i also wasnt expecting the bars to sound like that either. i was sure i broke a shaft or u-joint but that was it. it just broke the anti-wrap brackets clean off the axle tube. i looked it over real good and drove it home that night after taking the bars off and everything else seemed ok. as for the throttle, i was only about half throttle when it broke. i was only about quarter when i took off and slowly rolled into to it as i pulled, as you can hear in the video. i never found out the exact weight of the sled, when i asked the staff, they just said " a couple thousand pounds":doah:. but as for my truck, with a full tank of gas and me in it, it weighed in just about 6500 lbs.

has anyone personally welded their axle tubes to the pumpkins? ive heard of people doing it, but i want to talk to someone that has actually done it for themselves. did you heat the cast? how much did you heat it? what kind of welder did you use and with what welding material/rod?
