k well got it runing.....no more flames coming out of carb do to the new rocker nut i put in....but in order for me to drive it....i have to have the timing so far advanced its to the point were timing mark is on other side of balancer..when timing at 12* it just back fires out of the carb and barely wants to move but with it way advanced it runs good tho, dont over heat, takes off good...dont feel like im geting full power tho. (but not sure what to really expect with 35's that measure bout 33's and 4.56 gears and th350 and welded 14bltff)......when i checkd the valves they seemd like they were opeing in the rite places tho....like the cam was in right...im goin to check and make sure im not a tooth off on the dist.any other ideas?...could the carb be too rich??????
so if the dist comes out to be in right....and the cam *could* be off....what should i do? since its runs pretty good with timing so far advanced....

Stupid question...

When you're looking at it with a timing light, does the timing actually advance when you rev it or retard? Are you sure??

Mine ran like hell when I had the wires on the pickup coil reversed. The timing would actually drop when I revved it, it'd backfire unless severely advanced...

The harmonic balancer outer ring may have spun and so the timing mark is no longer correct. If this is the case then a new balancer is in order.

alright....sumbody give this guy a f****ing beer....just checked it.....timing does get retarded when i rev it......when you say wires on the pick up coil...are those the 3 wires goin next to the hot wire? well when i rev it the the timing mark drops at first when the rpms drop.... then the rpms slowly rise and the timing marks starts to advance with the rpms.........

never mind found out where ther at....did your keep retarding as u revd it? mine retards at first...but the rpms also go down as well...then the rpms pick up and so does the timeing....

I mean the two wires coming off the pickup coil that feed into the ignition module. Not the big 3-wire connector on the side of the distributor.

I think they're white and green. Either way, you get to them by removing the cap and rotor.

Mine retarded as RPM increased, and the engine ran progressively worse as RPMs went up.

It's worth a shot, for a quick try... reverse them. It'll either work or run worse. :haha:
