Not to dash your hopes, but if that thing was scrapped somewhere and no insurance claim was made, there wouldn't be any record of it. Remember most of the data on those VIN sites is driven by the insurance industry. That being said, if it's on a ranch somewhere being used as a work truck, it probably wouldn't be registered, either. If possible, I'd start with the last known owner and work forward from there, although I'm sure you've tried that....
