okay so im having a lot of deja vu with my 87 suburban. most of it bad. its got the whole tbi bullsh** thing with the 350.

here's the story. it was running pretty poorly like loss of power all that, so i replaced the wires, the map sensor, and the fuel filter and it seemed to be running better. the service engine soon light came on as soon as i started it up and the idle was really really low. but i know why its because i adjusted the idle manually when i tried to get it to pass smog a while back so adjusting it again should change it back. i dont know why suddenly its idling way low though. probably has something to do with the map sensor. i wish i could of seen what code it put out before we took it for a test drive. every time i put my foot on the pedal, it would hesitate really bad like the engine died but then come back to life suddenly and accellerate fine. this ONLY happened after i replaced the wires, filter, and MAP.

so the kickdown wasnt working i was going up a hill at like 15mph in 2nd gear at 2k rpms so i dropped it down into first, the engine went up to about 3200 (which is fine i usally take it up to 4) but then the whole thing died. engine shut off completely and wouldnt start back up. immediately checked the fuses, none were burned out. so i thought ok its the fuel pump, so i disconnected the fuel line on the engine side of the fuel filter and gas spurted out. so what else could it be? i checked to make sure that everything under the hood was connected in the right place and it was. could it be the injectors? the distributor module? (that and a burnt ECMI fuse was the problem last time this happened). any ideas? do the injectors have fuses? where are they? any help is appreciated. im just gonna go look at it after work tomorrow. here's a pic of where its stuck.

btw. it cranks. and thers no fuel getting past the injectors

not a bad place to be stuck. right next to the beach!

could still be the fuel pump. I had the same thing happen kind of. Figured it was the fuel pump so I did the same thing, disconnected the fuel line at the fuel filter and fuel came flying out. Plenty of fuel there but nothing out of the injectors,(much complaining later) found it was my fuel pump.doesnt sound like ecm or igntion module but that is easily pulled and oreillys will check it for free.

i see u are getting no fuel to the injector. but im havin another thought.. u having lack of power going up hills. etc? check out fuel pump or if ur truck has cataylic converter. i punched mine out in a 2003 silverado. it was running crappy. cant go over 40 mph on flat roads. up hills is even worse, it want to die. but kept running im glad i didnt blow a headgasket from the cataylic converter being very very clogeed up, i cleaned them out now i got tons of power, runs flawlessly. so check out ur airflow if u have them. thats all i can think of.

edit** it cld still be the fuel pump. doesnt matter if it comes out of the filter. the answer is how many psi of fuel is coming out. u should look into that. i thought my truck fuel pump was bad til i checked the psi it was only like 3 psi off. so that cldnt be the problem. did u check urs with the gauge yet??

If your CEL came on there is a code stored in the ECM memory. Check for trouble codes and post them up.
Problem can still be ign. The ECM wont fire the injectors if it does not see a spark signal. You could have a bad ign module ot magnetic pick up coil. If either one of these are bad it will either throw a code 42 or there will be no trouble codes stored except the normal 12.
If you have a fuel issue like a clogged filter or bad pump many times you will get a code 44 for lean exhaust.
Also it would be a good idea to check your fuel pressure.
Yes the injectors are fused. IIRC They are fused thru one of the 2 ECM fuses. If one of the fuses was blown ckeck the TB where the wires go to the injectors. Look at the wires going to the injectors. Sometimes they get pinched or insulation gets cracked and gets shorted to ground.

yeah thats exactly what happened last time this happened. i was driving when the engine randomly died. turned out the wire to the injector got pinched and was shorting out causing the ECM-I fuse to blow. it also blew out my ignition module. how do i check for codes again, dont i have to just jump the A & B pins on that little port and see what it reads? i think it might be an ignition module so im gonna buy one today just in case.

I thought this was funny considering what state he lives in. :D

haha dont rub it in... i think ill just cut the damn cat off. i never thought of it being an exhaust problem.... im going to put in a 383 stroker pretty soon and im going to totally redo my exhaust setup. goodbye cats

well good news! the truck is on the road again! new module and it works fine. and yes i rubbed the grease like crazy on the back of it. my temp gauge doesnt work now though...... oh well another problem another day

If the only problem is a plugged cat, the engine will still fire. Unless it is completely blocked, the engine will probably still idle.
