On the truck tailgates that say Chevrolet all the way across them what do the body side trunnions look like? I picked up some from the junkyard and both sides were circular. I thought the passenger side would be rectangle shape?

Both body side Trunnions from the junk yard looked like this

I expected the passenger side to look similar to this one but larger

the oval side is the removal- install side. This is how the gate is put on or taken off. They both ride inside the round cups on the gate. The oval goes on last by using the notch is the round cup on the gate. It would be hard to use both round unless you can access the bolts to remove and install.

The junkyard truck had both round. I thought it was just really rusted on. Had to remove the bolts on the trunnions to get the tailgate off. I think jekquistk5 is right, must have not wanted his tailgate to fall off. So there is suppose to be an oval one on the passenger side?

Yep. Passenger side is the removal side.

Anybody have the Passenger side oval trunnion for this tailgate? There was only one like this at the junkyard. I have the trunnions for the other style (Chevrolet only on the right side)

I imagine that you have already thought of it, but what is your reason to use the easy removal trunion?
Like @K85 Octane said , it's set up for anti-theft. But if you will want it removable, then I understand that too.

Couldn't you just take a grinder to one of those to make it removable? A little slice and dice action...

I think some of the earlier square body tailgates had two round ones, they didn't start making the tailgate "easy-off" for a few years..

I had a '74 GMC C-10 that had both round cups and you had to unbolt one of them to take off the tailgate..

Dorman does sell new ones now too...tailgate hardware.jpg

Yeah, my '68 is that way.
Just saying, could bolt it on and be done. How often are you pulling the gate off.

Tailgate thefts on the newer Super Duty Fords have been brisk in this part of MA lately, they have built in back up cameras and steps...no truck is safe at a mall or other public place where there isn't much security or people around..:(

I suppose the most the tailgate is going to be taken off and put back on is right now while I'm doing body work. After that I cant think of many scenarios where I would want to take it off. Come to think of it I don't recall removing the tailgate on any truck I've owned.
