Truck wont start - ideas?

@Wes Harden @70jimmy

Alright guys, I think I finally found the problem and have a potential solution. Let me know if I’m way off my rocker here.

When I double checked my work on the injectors, I realized I didn’t put the small black o-ring back on the new ones, I screwed through a gasket, and was missing a gasket for the bottom of the throttle body spacer thing. Put those all on new.

Finally found some time to replace all spark plugs and wires and nothing else. After it’s been sitting 3 days or so, I Figured I’d start there with the no spark. Started on the drivers side from front to back. All plugs didn’t look great. But nothing came out of their holes. Even crammed my finger in to see if anything would drip out, nothing. Then I get on the passenger side, second to last one from front to back (cylinder #6 on the picture) As I unscrew it, fuel comes out of the hole it was in. Not a ton, but about a shot glass or two worth.

I left that spark plug out, to let whatever fuel is in there evaporate, or whatever left hasn’t evaporated in the 3 days it’s been sitting. I figure I’ll wait till tonight or tomorrow afternoon, put the new plug and new wire in and hope for the best. Reasonable?

Sounds reasonable to me. It would be worth it to check for power coming from the computer, and coming out of the distributor, should be able to do that with just the key on before you even try to start it.

Well you certainly found some things

Those plugs look like they have enough miles on them regardless of what else you find, so no harm sending those in to look for the old injectors...

yes the missing orings were most likely, the cause the of the over fuel condition. And number 6 cyl dangerously close to serious mechanical damage. If enough liqiud had been in the cylinder, cranking could bend a rod.
So I am glad you let it air out.
Be sure the fuel leak at the injectors is solved

Will do!

Sounds like she’s almost there! Think distributor cap/rotor is next. Sounds like she’s cranking but won’t turn
Here’s a video of what she sounds like now
No fuel leaks anywhere this time
Any ideas?

My fuel level is low too, wonder if some gas in the tank wouldn’t hurt

Gas in the tank is always good, check to see if you have power to the fuel pump, unless you can hear it.

Also check for power from the distributor, and from the computer. Then I would physically look to see if the injectors are shooting fuel.

Sounds like its turning over fine, just no evidence of really trying to start whether its lack of fuel or spark.

This is where I’m not so good at things. How do I test for power to distributor, fuel pump, and computer? I’m pretty sure I heard the fuel pump

Does the check engine light come on when the key is on but engine not running? The computer has power if it does.

Take the air filter off and look down the throttle body while the engine is turning over (need a friend to help) and see if the injectors are spraying. If they are spraying, there’s some kind of ignition problem.

Also triple double quadruple check that you got the spark plug wires back on in the correct order.

You can usually see the fuel spray from the driver's seat. If not, at least the venturis will be wet after cranking.

yes and yes

so im thinking ignition then. coil possibly?
i dont have a friend to help out and the woman is at work, so i might throw the new coil i have sitting around in and see if that does it

Don’t go throwing parts at it yet. It worked fine before you did this stuff to it right?

Pull a plug out, put the wire back on it, and lay the threaded part of the plug on a good ground, like an intake manifold bolt or something. When cranking, you should see a spark. Can be done using a phone camera if you don't have a helper.

And the injector are spraying fuel, not dribbling or pouring in, correct?

I’d take a spark plug out, keep the wire on it and touch the metal body of the plug to the head while the motor turns over and see if it sparks. Obviously be careful if you had gas in one of the cylinders. Gas+spark=fire.

This guy up there types faster than me.
