The truck is a 87 1/2 ton 305TBI. I have plenty of gas. I hooked a spark plug to the coil wire and there's no spark. I replaced the coil. Still nothing. I've been searching around here for while. I came up with the control module and the pick up coil. Which of these is more likely the problem? I'm not a total newb, but I'm not overly educated on distributors. Also I took the cap off and there was white powder underneath right next to the module. I havn't replaced just because of the price. I don't want to throw money at it more after I already replaced the coil for no reason. This is my only driver at the moment so all help is welcome. Thanks all.

I vote for the module. Some part stores can test the module for you. Our local Car quest can.

I have replaced my module twice now but everytime it went bad I could still get it to fire up but im sure it varies. I would take the module out first and have it tested at oreillys or anywhere else that will do it first, its pretty simple. If it is bad I say go for the ac delco, its alot but the cheaper one i bought first did not last all that long.

I checked around and there aren't any parts stores that could check the module for me. So I replaced it anyway and everything is cool now. What a load off my mind. While off getting the parts today I put a few bucks in the bank account. So I think I'll finally become a member. My truck would still be sitting if it wasn't for this place. Thanks again.

I always like to replace both the pick-up coil and module at the same time. Sometimes one being new and the other old tends to put stress on the old part and make it fail.
