1990 Suburban. Stock 5.7 V8. Battery died and I charged it (jumped it). I checked the fuses in the block, they all look good. With teh key on, I am not getting power to the fuel pump. Is there a fuse besides teh ones inside the truck? I checked the pasanger side firewall under the hood and don't see one.

Fuel Pump relay day here on ck5? Does the relay turn on? Have you actually tested for power at the pump, or do you just not hear it turn on?

Well I had the same issue on my TBI and turned out the ignition module was bad and didn't signal to the pump to come on.
Once the ignition module was changed the pump cycled.
I still can't get it to start but now it looks like th epickup is bad, no time to get to it.
What else did you check on yours?
On my truck it was kind of the same, th ebattery died, and then when jumped it would run rough, or not start at all, and now it won't start at all.
I wonder if the bad battery is part of the problem?
I need to put a new one on and see if it's any better.:dunno:

It just didn't hear it. I tested it and listened (and felt) from under the truck and the fuel pump is working. Now what?

I checked under the hood and when teh key is turned on, I expected to see/hear/smell fuel with the cleaner off - nothing. Now what?

When you turn the key to on, not start, you should hear a relay click about 5 seconds after turning the key to on. You need it fairly quiet, but you can hear it. I actually notice mine everytime I get in and turn the key. This is part of the fuel pump prime circuit I believe. DO you have that?

If you are sitting in the drivers seat and lean towards the middle of the truck, forward towards the dash, turn the key and about 5 seconds after you should hear a "click" very similar to a relay latch or unlatching. Listen for that noise. If you hear that and you have confirmed that your fuel pump is running, I'm guessing at the tank, you should be getting fuel at the injectors.

I felt the pump on top of the tank - it's running. But I don't see/hear/smell anything under the hood - should I be able to see fuel or smell fuel when the pump primes?

I imagine you should, I've never tried to see it actually spraying yet. Have you tried spraying some ether in there to verify there is spark? If there is spark, the ether will at least fire and it should stumble. This will verify it is a fuel delivery issue.

Changed your fuel filter?

it happens. not likely that's your problem. you need a fuel pressure gauge and a spark tester. probably run you 65 bucks at a parts store for both... good tools to have handy

If the truck sat any length of time,a couple of months is all it takes for todays gas with ethanol to go stale, and it also absorbs water ,condensation forms in your tank when it gets warmed by the sun during the day and cools off at night--soon you have a mixture of water, gas and stale alcohol that us practically incombustible!..and it wont pass thru a gas filter very well either, even a "good" one..I would point my finger at fuel being the trouble, especially if it will fire upon starting fluid and then dies..

I also recommend trying the ether or starting fluid to eliminate the possibility of a spark issue.

I had a similar issue...mine would crank, but not spray fuel while cranking. I rigged a button to an injector so I give it a quick push and start it up, then it runs fine...I plan on fixing it but I kind of like the added security. BTW, the PO had a new wire running to the fuel pump so I suspect it is tied to the same issue somehow.

P.S. Clear some PMs, I want to PM you about your roof rack!

THanks for the help so far - I replaced the fuel filter and jumped it to my running X-terra. Nothing. With starter fluid it starts and runs until the fluid stops, then dies. I am going to get gas and seafoam (the tank is only 1/2 full) and try that.
