help. i just put a 350 from an 85 dumptruck into an 89 suburban. and im using the alternator from the 85. and i cant get the truck to turn off. i need to disconect a wire from the post on the back of the alternator to get the truck to turn off. can anyone explain how to wire this for me? is it even possible?

sure its possible. I would think that it would meen that your ignition relay is stuck in the on position or is wired straight to a hot lead.

You've got an ignition feed wire hooked up to alternator output , so all the time the truck is running , it's getting a power source from the alt. Check your wiring again.

Sounds like my starter problem I asked about yesterday.....

My truck starts, but the solenoid won't retract and keeps cranking.

Yesterday I pulled the key completely out of the ignition and it still sat there running and cranking at the same time. SCARY!
