In two years i will be bringing home about $1300 a month more than i do now. So, im trying to imagine what trucks i can afford when i top out! This thread is for me to keep track of all the trucks i think i would like to buy and start comparing them. I know its still two years away but let a guy dream will ya?!

You'll notice that my tastes are somewhat... variable...

use what you got
the rest of the $$$
save and travel
for me anyway, traveling to new places, new cultures, is the most meaningful thing a person can do. Something that will shape yourself into a better person and stick with you till death

$1300 a month more in 2 years will not be enough to break even with inflation/recession/depression if your job or this country survives that long. :eek1:

I'd go with this one if I was you:whistle:

But I'm not...:haha: Hope you get the truck of your dreams when ya top out. You gotta get something to look at to remind yourself how hard you worked to get there.

the black one was mine after I passed $25/hr.

Along with the $1300 a month more, I will also be $700 a month lighter in debt! So it will be more like $2000 a month more than I have now! So I should be able to by a $40-$50k truck without it hurting too bad.

The "funny" thing is, I'm just past $25 an hour right now, have a $1036 dollar a month house payment, and I still live paycheck to paycheck... :doah: How that happened I'll never know. The nice thing about my job, is that the USA only makes up a small percentage of airplane sales. So not that stuff here doesn't effect us, it's just cushioned. One thing I plan on doing is after I top out in 2 years, I plan on going into the electrical apprenticeship they have at work. It's a few bucks an hour more, but more importantly, it's a lot more layoff proof. Not every factory needs an assembler like me, but every factory needs an electrician!

Yet another point is that I really really want myself to get an 05-07 GMC crew cab short bed, 6.0, pewter, stock, less than 100k miles, but I just don't know if they will be out there by then. So if I have to get a nnbs, I might as well get a new one with as much warranty as possible. Cause lord knows I ain't gonna be able to work on that new fangled stuff!

I didn't mean to burst your bubble, everyone wants a new truck. But seriously if your making that kind of money and still living paycheck to paycheck..... the $40k to $50K for a truck would be better spent on paying off a mortgage and saving $40k to $50k in interest... that way you have a place to live if something goes wrong. Stop giving your hard earned cash to banks for interest. It's a bad way of life we as Americans have become accustomed to.

How much of your income goes to interest each month? That one always hurts...

Believe me, I burst my own bubble pretty often. I give myself reality checks pretty often. A lot can happen in two years. Who knows, maybe for now its just a fun fantasy. Cause probably about once a week I have a talk with myself about just fixing up the rigs I have now living a life of saving. So its tough to say what will happen when that money gets in my grubby little mitts. I'm either going to buy a new truck, buy a used truck, or buy nothing at all. Either way, there is nothing you can tell me that I don't already realize. But ultimately, I might make q mistake and regret it, and I might not.

Nothing wrong with dreams! Keeps a guy motivated! :waytogo:

Problem is when a guy has a good job and good credit it's to easy to just sign the papers...

I just went through the same thing, my old Suburban has just been used a lot in 10 years and needs a lot of maintenece, tried to talk myself into a new truck! Never had one, always got a used one way cheaper. But after crunching numbers, I did like I always do and looked hard for a long time and found the sweetest, cleanest most well manitained vehicle for the $7k I had in bank, no paymnets or intrest. Man that was a lot of money considering the 1990 Suburban was just as sweet and clean when I got it 10 years ago for $2200. and it has taken care of me and family for that long!

A guy needs a daily driver to take care of life while he plays with toys! :D

In another 10 years I'll have one of those trucks you showed pictures of...

I hear ya. Recently I was looking into trading the jetta in for something else. The payments were only going to be another $120 a month, but for 6 more years! I just couldn't do it. So it's possible that I could set out to buy a truck, then get in the hot seat and have the numbers in front of me and have that be enough to talk me out of it. If I could get one of those 0% 5 year loans, that would work out ok. But, who knows. I have a hunch that once I realize that while I'm debt free that I can afford to do all the truck stuff I dream about all day right now, that I will probably want to stay debt free! I'll have enough money to do a 5.3 swap every month! LOL! One thing I regret about the jetta is I did a zero down loan on it. That's one thing I will never do again. Even if I could just put 5k down, that's that much better.

If you research you'll find a 0% intrest loan on a new car is not a good deal as the price has already made up the difference... and after 5 years of payments and the truck is paid for it's only worth half what you paid?

Nothing like math to talk you out of a vehicle loan...

You and I are a lot a like. We're both constantly dreaming of the next best vehicle to have. Then we crunch the numbers and realize we have to wait... :doah:

I think that rings true with lots of folks on here... Its exciting, and then disappointing, and then exciting again when you remember that you really like what you already have and remember all the silly stuff that you want to do to what you already have and that you can do all those things if you just dont spend the money on that next best vehicle.
