True duals...anyone else have this problem?

here in cali you have to pass a dyno smog (wheels on rolleres and check emissions under a load 15mph and 25mph) unless your rig came with a full time 4x4 stock. Also, cali is trying to get rid of 76 to 95 and obd1 vehicles off the road by making them go to a Test Only Center (no smog repairs on site). My vehicle came with a single pipe no cat, and no egr. I put a cat on it to pass smog then had a muffler shop remove it once i told him that this is a pennsylvania truck that doesnt require cats from factory. Cali might have ****ty smog rules but no inspections are cool. Get a smog exempt vehicle is the way to go plus you can sell them for more here in cali. Friends of mine have 2 or 3 exhaust systems on their smog wheelers and swap everything every 2 years for a hour of testing or so then switch it back. Dual exhaust is way better than single in my opinion.

well...my friend knows someone in the exhaust business that said he will run the single for me with 3" pipe (almost the same price as 2.5") so I think I am set for that part. It's just a stock 400, aftermarket intake, headers. I will use it for my fun truck, not dd, but not serious off-road either. Just some snow, beach, and light trail.

But while we are all caught up arguing over the duals and singles, I would still like different opinions on different mufflers everyone uses.

Weve got it here, But not with truck plates. The only thing with truck plates is it can limit you on some roads.

Flowmasters sound good but Borla makes one of the best, if not the best mufflers as far as a quality made muffler. I have dual 40 series flows on my K5 and they sound good.

I wouldn't be afraid at all to try one of those newer Aero mufflers. The diesel guys are raving about them and I am thinking of trying their 5" muffler on my Ram Cummins.

Most of their stuff is all diesel related but the 3030 is meant for a gas engine.

Wow Sandawgk5! Thought this was a forum of opinions. Didnt think you would take an opinion so personal, and end up getting a little nasty about it. Sorry to piss you off so bad. Maybe calm down a little cause one guys opinion really isnt enough worth getting you pulse and Blood pressure up is it?

As far as thinking eveyone on here has a high revving or needs a high reving motor. As I said (not to piss you off again) a typical 350 Chevrolet engine makes most torque approx in the 2000-3500 range. Considering idle is anywhere from 600-1000 on most vehicle headers and duals always outfloe stock manifolds and singles. Dont worry I didnt blow my wad.

No my 78 came stock from GM with Dual exhaust no cats.... Mine was one of the few that came with a SBC 400 motor which didn't come with cat and had the dual exhaust. My 74 also came with daul exhaust from GM...

I think he was comparing the square inches of flowable area in the pipes.

ex.
single 3" = 7.07 square inches
dual 2.5" = 9.8 square inches

I could be wrong tho

Yes, you are correct. The surface area is the easiest way to compare different size pipes.

This is why my rig has a '73 frame and '78 body (mostly). In Cali. if you have the right year (don't know what year it is now) or a deisel frame no smog at all.
