Trying to figure out what trans I have

So in my 72 k5 whichs is stock the shift knob reads 1 2 3 4 r. From what I have read most of them came with 465 but doesn't the 465 have a l 1 2 3 r on the shift knob ? The truck is stock it has a 350 with a ? trans and a 205. Thanks in advance Denny

Knob might not be original. What is the shift pattern? An SM465 has reverse to the right of 4th gear.

That is the pattern for the SM465.

I don't know the exact years, but there were differnt knobs. Some had an "L" and some had a "1". Ofcourse whos to say it hasn't been changed in the last 30 years.

Was the pattern for the SM 420 different? I know the 420 preceded the 465, but wasn't aware if the shift pattern was different or not. Both are good trannies...

Yes, the SM420 has reverse to the left and down.
