Heres the problem....i have a 89 blazer, 4in lift, and 35in MTs. Im getting 35x14.50x15 boggers soon and am pretty sure i will need some extra power to turn those things!! especially with stock gearing....i do have a d44 and 14bff with 4.10s to put under when i get a chance. Problem is the tbi goodwrench engine will not run well with the cam and intake i want (.480 lift .230 dur. at .50---edlebrock performer rpm air gap) this will create havoc with the computer so i am debating switching to carb. Any input would help! (i run it in mud drags) will the tbi compatable edlebrock intakes and cam produce the power and powernband of the other option i listed?? 2000-6000rpm Thanks:confused:

PS most of the running i do is sloughs and drag pits since we have no trails around here so i wont be encountering any extreme angles unless i screw up real bad lmao!!

A TBI engine (even with a carb). Will never see 6000 RPM without swapping heads. TBI heads run out of air around 4800 RPM. You pretty much run into a wall at 5000.
To see the kind on RPM/power you want. You would need a custom tune, Bigger TB, Better heads, intake, cam, exhaust. This could get pretty expencive in you are on a budget.
If you go carb. plan on new heads, cam, manifold, new distributor. new fuel pump or regulator with return line if you run the stock in tank pump, TV cable kit if you have a 700r4 trans

Ya i figured on most of this for either going tbi or carb except the heads, was trying to avoid them but i dont think that will happen.......and the custom chips for computer arent cheap and computers can have problems. any good setups around for reference?? doesnt have to be race winning but dont want to dog out when boggers start diggin....

alot of the times guys doing serious engine builds would be better off just buying a turn key crate, saves hassle and time, and if your going into an extensive retrofit, money. check summit for some good ones.

Ok thanks i will keep that in mind!! i kinda want to do this build myself as a good refresher course unless it becomes a serious pain in my a**!! I guess i dont need monster hp at this time i have another 350 to do that with over time im just trying to turn the new tires on my toy, is 4.10 a decent ratio or 4.56 be better??

Depends what you'e using it for, off road only or is it going to see highways and roads? mine still has the stock gearing because it still has to get me around in the civilized world, but if you're just crawling, go balls to the walls.
