First I can't seem to see the numbers on the timing chain cover they seem worn off or some crap. Second where is the EST wire, this needs to be disconnected right during timing the truck? Also where does the timing need to be set at thanks?

The wire is near the brake booster, and its pink or brown, it should be the only or one of the only that isn't wrapped in loom, and there is a black kind bayonet connector to connect / disconnect.

On my 87 350 TBI, I haven't been able to find any timing marks.

Factory spec is 0 deg BTDC.

Remember to disconnect the - batt when youre done to clear the code that will be set from disconnecting the EST.

timing

I don't ever know when you'd want "after" tdc anyways, just unplug the wire and set it at zero....... if your not sure where zero is, pull the #1 plug out, bump it till you have compression and then turn the motor by hand to get the piston all the way to the top, you can put a screwdriver in the hole to tell, but be careful. once the piston is all the way up make your own mark on the balancer and the timing tab and use that.

Ok I found the EST wire unplugged it marked my balancer set it at O ran like ****, then at 8 still ran like **** then 12 and wow ran like a caddy :eek1:. Is this normal or is something off :dunno:. BTW I did reconnect the EST wire each time.

that doesn't sound right, why are you re seting the timing? what did you do to make you want to set the timing? is the tab stock? timing on a tbi is normally set at zero and the computer does the rest, all though thats how my 94 is....not too sure if the 87 does the timing with the computer?

When you time it, disconnect the EST wire. Then plug it back in and the ECU should time it automatically. If it's running poorly, you don't have the timing set properly to 0 degrees with the EST removed.

The EST on my truck is brown and goes to the back of the distributor.
