well, my frame is cracked around my steering box just a tad, like 1inch crack or so(VERY SMALL) and i was wondering....can i get a flux core welder from hope depot or something and do this myself??? i have the weld on kit also(so i need to weld that also), and i wanted a welder, PLUS i can't find ANYONE!!! to come weld it for me....everyone is out of town that i know. i figured this is a good excuse for me to pick up the welder i wanted anyways....any input would be appreciated...

my truck hasn't been driven in close to 45days, so whats another few days(or a week) of practicing my welding till i can weld this...basically, will the flux core do the job???

PS...all i have access to is 110V since i live in an apt. and i have a small garage.

Sounds like a good excuse to drive up here to Pascagoula and I'll do it for you.

Or you could do it with a flux core 110V welder. It would work.
Practice before you do it so you can be sure you are getting the best weld possible.

I think flux core would work. That **** burns in hot compared to solid with gas.

Mine got welded on with a Harbor Freight 110V with flux core so a Home Depot unit should work good.

Like Readymix said Practice first.

what do ya'll think of this one...i have a home depot gift card so i kinda wanna use that if possible since mulah is kinda tight right now.....

it says it welds 1/8in steel, but i don't think i need to penetrate the area 100percent.....it's not gonna fall off or anything you know....

they also have this one...

but it's 120bucks more and im a little strapped right now....but it does weld 1/4in though... any suggestions???

For welding frame or any decent thickness steel you should use a 140 model at minimum (220v is better). I went with a miller 180 (alittle pricey) but it welds 1/4'' like a champ. I know i can get enough penetration and dont have to worry about the strength.

You have many options. I would either wait and get a nice miller 220V or get the $369 one from home depot. You will be very happy you spent the extra dough. It doesn't sound like you are in a spot to get the miller right now so go for the Lincoln. I would go for the better lincoln because you get more capabilities with it and you also don't need a 20A outlet, you can stick with 15A. Good luck and practice, practice, practice! I weld all the time with a miller and I still am not very good. DOH!
