Well...almost. I may be on the boards again before I leave on Saturday.
We're off to do the croissiere blanche at Orcierres, France, which translates to 'white trecking'. But with the current bizzare weather it may be mud trecking!:doah: The whole rally takes place 3000m up in the French Alps. 4 days of wheeling in deep snow......but the forecast for next week is warm and wet, as it is over most of Europe which is a real drag as we've been wanting to do this trip for years. All the weather in Europe is screwed at the moment, even russia, Moscow should be minus 'freezing to death' and buried in snow yet it's like 4*c there at present.
I've done a LOT of work on the truck last year. New axles, whells/tires/beadlocks, crossover, rollcage,OBA,rock lights, spots, shackle flip/4" lift, rebuilt trans and motor etc etc. Unfortunately I destroyed my new motor just before christmas :( so had a very busy few weeks pulling it and rebuilding it again. It's all in and running good now. My new EBL ecu system is working great too after a lot of datalogging and tuning.
I've packed (and secured very firmly) spare front and rear axle shaft, UJs, starter, alternator, serp belts, plugs, tools, coolant, oil.......and snow chains, survival gear etc. Spare fuel, hi-lift, chains, straps etc.

Anyone got any suggestions of other 'must have' spares?

We're going to be doing about 2000miles on and off road over 10 days. I'm really loking forward to it but a bit apprehensive too, I just hope we get some snow otherwise 200+ vehicles will soon turn the mountain sides into a muddy slide!
My wife's on camera duty so I should have a bunch of pics for you when we get back!:D

Tally Ho!:p:

LOL, ok:haha: . It's ok, she's got her timing right for once!:D

Take a camera with lots of space on the chip and extra batteries. We expect pics. Have fun, that sounds like an awesome trip.

Sounds like you've got just about everything.

How about a good old roll of Duc tape?

Make sure you drink plenty of water. And start before you leave. Staying hydrated will help prevent altitude sickness. Especially the annoying little headache that can develop.

People always think the altitude thing is hype. When my sea level livin' buddies come out to snowboard they're always commenting on how the altitude wipes them out.

Mom and Dad (fred2mihi) used to live in a small mountain here in Colorado with an elevation of 3500m or basically 2miles. That's why dad picked the CK5 name that he did, 2mi = two miles, hi = high. They don't live there anymore, partially because the altitude was hard on Dad's heart.

If you have time, you oughta read up on altitude sickness. In some rare cases people can be pretty severely affected. Usually it's just an annoying headache and maybe some nausea though.

One side benefit is that you don't need to drink near as much alcohol as you normally would. It takes affect much faster at altitude.

Good luck and have a lot of fun.:thumb: And take lots 'o pics. :D

Mr. Cricket......good idea, I forgot about that one.

Thanks Scott, good advice as I'm a sea level dweller myself!

I second the extra batteries for the camera, mabey spare axle shafts, it sounds like you have most everything covered. Have fun

You might also consider looking at some MRE's. Sportsman's Guide is selling them by the dozen right now for about $70. We used to carry them in our SWAT rig. The extra food in a small space is nice and with the magnesium heater packs, they are multi-purpose. Being an "athletic built" guy that I am (read that: "skinny") I found it to be a very useful item to cuddle up with on those bitter cold training nights. Take a look in their military surplus category.

Bog roll packed:D
MREs, well we've got some of those charcoal hand warner things plus plenty of 'survival food' (all the stuff she won't usually let me eat unless I'm training hard:rolleyes: )
Looking at the weather forecast though, I may just pack shorts and t-shirts and suntan lotion! Bloody global warming.....I blame China!:p:

Just remembered something important......gotta get some new CK5 stickers on the truck, let them Frenchies know who's boss!:D

Adios Muchachos.
Hitting the road in an hour so I'll see y'all in a couple of weeks!:D
