I am going to look at a clean tub I saw for sale to possibly replace the very rotted 89 k5 tub I just bought. I don't know the year at the moment but looks like a mid to late 80's as a guess. My question is what all changed and would need to be modded to swap over my 89 parts to a possible different (earlier) year tub? I don't think there are too many differences.
Thanks for any insight.

Tub on a Blazer 81-91, grill changes and interior.

Any tub '81 and up will be a direct fit. 78-81 fit with only a little work to get the later front clip to bolt up properly.

I thought there was a floor height change somewhere along the line?

There isn't any differences in the firewall if the one I am wanting to buy was carb'd and mine is fuel injected? I would think that there are some minor differences?

The only firewall differences I know of are heater vs a/c, vacuum vs hydraboost brake booster mounting area and 85+ trucks should have template dimples to locate the hydraulic clutch master cylinder.

Seats/mounts changed around '85, not a particularly easy fix. There seems to be some carryover into '86, but either tilt passenger/slide drivers (early) or fold/slide/recline driver/passenger seats (later).

The earlier seat setup suck IMO, if access to the rear seats is important, or you ever want to nap in the front seats lol.

I know there was a frame part number change in 83 but I don't know if it indicates any body related changes. Could simply be a manufacturer change.
