Ok I am looking at the cost of tubing now it looks like a tube crawer will need 300’ of tubing 300X $7.50 $2250 bucks and other needed maters $300 = $2550 is this a low ball cost for just the steel wow this thing can get costly??
have any of you put a buget together??? what do you think /forums/images/graemlins/weld.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grind.gif

What are you building that out of, gold plated chrome moly? For $7.50/ft that stuff may as well be gold plated. I paid $1.22/ft for 1.75x.120 wall HREW.

i saw that price on a site and it was for dom 1.5 but thanks for the input i looking for help like that but this is why i made this post /forums/images/graemlins/waytogo.gif

You definately can get raped when buying steel. I have seen those online steel supliers and they are the biggest molestors of all! /forums/images/graemlins/yikes.gif

tell me about it the local steel supplier here wants $7.29/ft for some 2" square tubing. I walked out with 2 pieces of 4" channel 8' long for $52 and felt like I was getting a bargain. /forums/images/graemlins/yikes.gif

that is high, but price of steel right now is just rediculous...I'm waiting to do any cage work until the prices start to go down. Not sure when, but I read in the paper (a few weeks ago), that it should by late summer...but who knows...

200' of 2" .120 wall DOM, $2.65 per foot two weeks ago. That went up .75 cents a foot two weeks before I bought it.

20' of 1.75 .250 wall DOM, $5.45 per foot yesterday.

All of this was from Ryerson Tull. Cash sale, no account.

If you go to a local shop and buy 300 feet they will give an even better deal due to the volume. I was quoted 3.75 a foot for 1.5 .120" HREW and after buying 200 feet I got it for 1.10 a foot. 1.5 .120" DOM was about 3.10 a foot at a 200 foot order. This was about 2 weeks ago.

If you find a good steel shop (not a nation wide chain/network) use cash and tell them you do not need a receipt. The shop I go to put me on the *special* price list with a hand written work order for that. Just don't expect to take any of it back to them.

Yeah, just ask them where their price break is on the metal. They should be able to tell you. Most of the time it's on the weight, mine was at 500lbs.

Since China is building up their country...
They've been buying:
Scap, Coaling Coke, and raw steel from US companies..
Driving the price of steel up!!!
Because they need Railroads..and bridges..

There was a big article in the Wall Street Journal..last week...

My brother is a Steel Buyer...
he says...prices are going UP again..

And he says...
the rumor is...prices..will stablize around May...
and slowly drop...this Summer..

At least... let's HOPE SO!!!! /forums/images/graemlins/whistling.gif

Maybe waiting a couple months...could help..on price..
