i Made some tube doors for my 85 k5. having an issue with the latch style or method of securing the doors when i close them. i want something solid that isnt ghetto rigged. anyone have any suggestions, pro/cons, or any advise design wise.

I saved a set of 83-93 S-10 Blazer tailgate latches for future use in a set of tube doors, if I ever get around to building some. They are a simple design without a lock and open with a simple horizontal pull. They attach via 3 small bolts similar to a factory door latch. And the jaws clamp around a similar size door latch pin as used in the door jamb of the K5, if not the same size.

I haven't built any tube doors yet so I have no idea how they will work in the end. But these are what I was gonna try.

I haven't made any tube doors yet, but my plan for when I do is to use these:

I'm also planning to change the latches on my regular doors to this type for two reasons. 1: the factory first gen latches are retarded and 2: then I can swap from regular doors to tube doors and have the same striker on the body and just quickly change the doors. We'll see if this works or not...

I have not used a set myself, but i've seen guys use the hood latch off of a jeep cherokee. 80's maybe 90's too. They are similar to a door latch but made with a diff housing, so that they bolt on externaly instead of mounting inside of a door panel. Simple to bolt to a flat plate.

Whelp.... on a side note, you could engineer some electro magnet door retainers.. Normally closed untill triggered open.. A-La hotrod style... Google it, you might find somethin cool....:waytogo:
