Been thinking about the same question for the Jimmy. I am leaning toward tube doors with a cut donw the middle to lean out.

Also on a weird note I was thinking a plex or lexan skin that is removeable along with a top tube section that would be removeable and have its own removeable lexan panel.

good visibility but different grades of protection from mud and rain when desired.:dunno:

Now if that money tree would only bloom to put these ideas into reality.

Exactly what I was thinking, but I like no doors myself.

i like half doors for a few reasons.

1. aesthetics.
2. you can build some creature comforts in them. i've seen them done with tool boxes in the bottom. additionally, like already mentioned, you could run a soft door in them to keep the weather out if it turns nasty. you can add a cup holder - but that could be done to tube doors too.
3. most importantly, i think they're safer. they're more likely to keep sticks from impaling you or rocks from crushing you in a flop. keeps stuff out - keeps your entire leg in - no feet slipping out the bottom.

The safty issue is still the only reson I have stock doors on my off roader! The biggest factor is your hip, thigh, knee, leg and fott stay in the truck in a rollover or flop! Most important thing I think anyone should be thinking about is the drivers hip (ass), staying in place so he or she can still drive or not be half way out during the roll...

my old half doors in that pic are for sale. Friend bought them then kinda truggied his rig.

also I did half doors then and designed them with inner and outer latches so I could have a snap on cover made like a jeep soft door for quick and easy foul weather changes, that is why the upper frame is in them too

That has more to do with how good the seat and belt(s) are, and not much with tube vs. half doors.
That's true. I was sold on the effectiveness of suspension seats when I flopped the General. I was firmly held in the seat; of course I had a seat belt on as well.

Correct, as most pictures in this thread have racing seats and aftermarket seat belts.

But with stock seats and belts the tube or half door does a lot to hold you in.

Tube doors

There easier to see out of..I painted them white to match after this pic.
